Clean Vibes was a critical part of waste management in the fashion industry for Australian Fashion Week, diverting over 75% of waste from landfills.

Overview

As in previous years, Clean Vibes ensured the smooth running of the Australian Fashion Week 2024, held at Carriageworks in Sydney. Our team effectively managed the event’s fashion waste management by providing cleaning services throughout the venue's indoor and outdoor areas.

Pandora Fashion Week 2024 is a part of the Australia Fashion week, promising a week of festivities filled with shows, talks, and mingling. The event highlighted the latest fashion trends from around the globe, attracting thousands of attendees, including designers, models, industry professionals, and fashion enthusiasts.

Clean Vibes, designated as the waste management partner for Pandora Fashion Week 2024, provided comprehensive cleaning and waste management services.

Solution

Clean Vibes, designated as the waste management partner for Pandora Fashion Week 2024, provided comprehensive cleaning and waste management services. With a team of 30 cleaners working from early morning to late night, accumulating 400 scheduled hours, Clean Vibes ensured the venue remained spotless throughout the event. They meticulously sorted all rubbish by category and removed it from the site at bump-out, managing recycling and waste disposal efficiently.

Our approach included:

  • Bump-In and Bump-Out: Assisting suppliers and organisers during setup and dismantling phases to ensure efficient waste management and cleaning the venue to leave it as it was before the event.
  • On-Site Waste Management: Deploying teams to manage waste throughout the event, including sorting and recycling. Separate bins for general waste, recycling, and organics were placed inside and outside the venue to keep it clean at all times.
  • On-Site Cleaning: Scheduling cleaners to effectively manage tasks such as vacuuming carpets, mopping and sweeping floors, cleaning mirrors in makeup rooms, cleaning tables and chairs, removing empty drinks left after shows, and preparing rooms for the next event. Bins were strategically placed around the venue and swapped when full.
  • Educational Initiatives: Strategically placing three types of bins around the venue (recycling, general waste, and organics) covered with black fabric marked with signs indicating their purpose to help attendees correctly dispose of their waste, while maintaining a premium look with the black covers.

Challenges and Adjustments

Several challenges were encountered, primarily attendees not placing their waste in the correct bins despite clear signage. To address these issues, staff sorted waste at a compound located at the back of the venue, ensuring proper separation of recyclable items from general waste.

Outcome and Key Accomplishments

The Clean Vibes team successfully maintained the cleanliness of the venue and ensured all waste was removed, maximising sustainability. Key achievements include:

  • Collected and processed 132.78 cubic metres of waste, with 84.82 cubic metres being recycled.
  • Achieved a waste diversion rate of 75.75%, significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
  • Diverted 9.44 cubic metres of glass and 6.32 cubic metres of aluminium and plastic from landfill.

We were delighted to work at Fashion Week for another year and look forward to many more. As an advocate for waste management in the fashion industry, our team will continue advocating to attendees about the importance of recycling.
