Beef Australia 2024: Clean and Sustainable Event Waste Management
Providing employment opportunities and diverting waste from landfills were some of the critical results we achieved with Beef Australia.
Overview
Beef Australia is a premier industry event showcasing the best of Australia's beef industry, held triennially in Rockhampton, Queensland. Its 2024 event attracted over 120,000 attendees, including cattle producers, agribusiness professionals, industry stakeholders, and consumers globally.
The event spanned multiple phases: two weeks of pre-clean support, two weeks of bump-in, one week of the main event, and two weeks of bump-out. Clean Vibes was a partner for Beef Australia’s event waste management entrusted with providing comprehensive cleaning to ensure the event's smooth and sustainable operation.
Solution
To ensure Beef Australia 2024 ran seamlessly, Clean Vibes developed and executed a comprehensive action plan centred on sustainability, cleanliness, and efficient event waste management.
Our team of 74 local staff members worked around the clock throughout the event's entire duration, contributing a total of 3,985 hours to maintain impeccable standards of cleanliness and waste disposal.
Our approach included:
- On-Site Waste Management: Teams were deployed to manage waste throughout the Beef Australia event, including regular waste collection, sorting, and recycling efforts.
- Cleaning Services: Continuous cleaning services were provided for both indoor and outdoor areas, ensuring a pristine environment for all attendees.
- Social Impact: By hiring local staff, Clean Vibes made a positive impact on the local economy.

Challenges and Adjustments
Managing the extensive waste generated by the event posed significant challenges for the Clean Vibes team. The high volume of waste required meticulous planning and constant monitoring. Issues included:
- Bin Allocation: The number of 240lt bins was slightly insufficient, especially at Jardine Park and the cattle area. Adjustments were made by moving bins around to meet demand.
- Cardboard Recycling: The closure of the cardboard recycling facility on the public holiday led to capacity issues, requiring efficient management on subsequent days.
- Food Waste: Improper disposal by food vendors led to contamination and odours. Future solutions include appointing food officers to oversee and audit food waste disposal.
- Special Waste Handling: Challenges with certain vendors required additional management and adjustments for waste disposal.
